Airport Service in the County
Lawrence County Airport is located in the Industrial Airpark in Courtland. It has two (2) 5,000 ft. runways that are paved and have state-of-the-art lighting systems.
Tennessee Valley Air Center is a full-service fixed base operator for the airport. It offers commercial pilot services, flight instruction, aircraft rental, ground freight handling, an FAA testing facility and courtesy car services - including transportation to the nearby Valley Landing Golf Course. For more information, visit www.tvacenter.com.
This area is also served by the Huntsville International Airport. The airport has an air charter service and an inter-modal freight terminal. It is the headquarters of a Foreign Trade Zone (which extends to Lawrence County). The US Customs Port of Entry is also located at Huntsville. For more information, visit www.hsvairport.org.
The commercial carriers flying out of Huntsville are:
U. S. Airways
Pryor Field just north of Decatur is a busy general aviation airport that handles a large volume of small air freight and corporate aircraft.
Northwest Alabama Regional Airport just west of Lawrence County in Muscle Shoals, has commuter air services and general aviation.
Public transit is available through the Lawrence County Public Transportation Department. It runs several sized vans and buses which provide subsidized transportation to senior citizens and those with special needs. It also provides contract transportation for the public.
Across the northern part of the county is U.S. 72 (Ala. 20). It's four-lanes and runs east-west connecting the Shoals area with Decatur. Ala. 157 cuts diagonally through the heart of Lawrence County. It is now four lanes and runs from the Shoals, through Moulton to Cullman, where it connects to I-65. Ala. 24 runs east-west through Moulton to connect Russellville and Decatur with another four-lane highway.
A new limited access Memphis-to-Atlanta Super Highway is in the design stages. The proposed plan calls for it to parallel U.S. 72 in the Northern part of Lawrence County.
