Youth Leadership Lawrence
The Chamber of Commerce has always had a desire to develop new leaders to move Lawrence County forward. One of the greatest programs that the Chamber sponsors is Youth Leadership Lawrence. This is a nine month program established six years ago where applications are accepted for students in the 10th and 11th grade country wide, including private and home schooled students. To the credit of our community we are proud to announce that the 2010 - 2011 class of Youth Leadership Lawrence will expand to 40 students. We look forward to sharpening the leadership skills and professionalism in the lives of these young individuals.
These young men and women are given the opportunity to discover the everyday happenings in Lawrence County that keep us moving and growing. They visit cattle and poultry farms, the Lawrence Medical Center, the Lawrence County Courthouse and jail, International Paper, Joe Wheeler Electric Membership Co-op, Servico Gin, Moulton Stockyard, the Jesse Owens Memorial Park and Museum, Oakville Indian Mounds and Museum, Pond Spring and the beautiful Bankhead National Forest. This allows them to see firsthand the opportunity for employment right here at home. They interact with farmers, attorneys, doctors, engineers and journalists. We are proud that most participants graduate from the program with a greater respect and admiration for our county and our officials.
