From the beautiful banks of the Tennessee river in the north to the breathtaking vistas in the hills of the Bankhead National Forest in the south, our county offers something to anyone who loves the outdoors. We have pristine areas for fishing and hunting, trails for hiking, great parks and recreational facilities, and an award-winning golf course. Golfers can enjoy Deer Run in Moulton, a beautiful 18-hole course with a driving range, putting green and full-service pro shop. We are also just a short drive from the nationally-renowned Robert Trent Jones golf trail. For those looking for a secluded spot for vacations or corporate retreats, Joe Wheeler State Park and Doublehead Resort near Town Creek are great choices. Through the year, our county enjoys fun events like the annual Strawberry Festival and the Multi-Cultural Indian event held at the Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center. We also host an annual old-fashioned county fair.
For history buffs, our county features two can't-miss attractions - the Jesse Owens Museum, honoring the Lawrence County native and Olympian, and the General Joe Wheeler Home and Museum. Also, all our communities offer a variety of historical homes and sites.
Our county is proud of our strong school system comprised of four public high schools. All schools offer college preparatory classes and perform at or above the state average in most testing metrics. All schools have a variety of sports teams that compete in the Alabama High School Athletic Association. The county also has an extensive youth sports program.
For potential industry, Lawrence County is set up perfectly, with major highways, river transport, and a dedicated potential work force. We have strong community leadership and a diverse business community.
